“It’s all about the calories,” a doctor told me a few years ago. I had gone in for a physical that was required before some minor surgery and was told by that particular doctor that I was too fat. Those weren’t his exact words, but I got his meaning. I couldn’t believe my ears! At the time, I was a size six, which is considered pretty small, but according to him I needed to lose 18 pounds. I looked at myself in the mirror. From where?! I walked everywhere, ran up and down stairs all day long, took long bike rides, worked out at a fitness center, swam when I could. I was in great shape! But according to him, I was a heffer who should have been a size two. Granted, I am short, but I am not four feet tall and I certainly wasn’t trying out for supermodel of the year. I went home and immediately gained two pounds. I think it might’ve been that half gallon of peach melba ice cream that put me in the danger zone. Defiance binging—eat this, Dr.
